Miraculous Eye Contact: DRISHTI

Communication comes naturally to each one of us, for we are humans. We need it as we want to get noticed or heard. It relaxes our inner self when we know we have someone to listen. Even a newborn tries to express themselves and do their best to convey their needs. A must have ingredient for communication is eye contact. It is not only powerful but develops trust too.

EYE CONTACT MADE HIM LAUGH
Till the time he did not grow up to be a toddler and was still an infant on mute mode, I found a magical way to communicate with him. We did lot of this. Not only I, but little K used to enjoy it much more. I used to whisper looking into his eyes along with clear lip moments. After I finished, he had a good laugh. I started this very early, when he was around 4 months old and am still doing it. We do this daily to steal some WE time – I will really cherish these moments forever. These days, I find that it calms him too when he has his temper tantrum outbursts.

IT MADE HIM LEARN
Now when he is a naughty, playful Toddler, I still continue the eye contact practice with him. Whenever he looks out for things or asks for something in his own jumbled words, I help him to look for it like this – I ask him to look at me and when he does, I point my finger and my eyes to the object. At first, he had difficulty understanding my signals but now he is getting the hang of it. I can feel the confidence in his eyes when he does that.

TRANSFERRING LOVE USING EYE CONTACT
Despite my long working hours, I ensure that I connect with him when we are together. We communicate – Not only I but he converses too. In the morning, I used to say ‘Good morning’ while looking into his eyes. After coming back from office, I ask him “Kaise Ho?” (How are you?) I wait for his feedback. He runs towards me calling my name out loud; a name given by him – KONI

Now, my all-time favourite eye contact practice: You will definitely love it too.

During bed time, I look into his eyes in the most affectionate way. Back in my mind, I bless him to be a good human being, an honest person and other good qualities every Mother wants her children to imbibe. To me, this works just in sync with the Drishti practice. Drishti (glancing) requires concentration and pure feelings which can be expressed through the biggest channel of energy, the eyes. The eyes really talk. Drishti is the link between the thought we have in our mind and the way that thought affects what we see when we look out at the world.

I believe this way I can instill good values in him without using words which he will not understand at this tender age but which his heart will recognize and follow. Babies absorb these easily as their feelings and heart are pure and so are our feelings for them. Mothers can easily practice this for God has gifted us a special bond with our child. Not only for developing good communication skills, but eye-contact helps in building a trustworthy relationship too. We all should teach this art of eye-contact to kids which can be easier if started early.
